Wells Street Blues Band - John Anderson - Acetate

Hi to everyone on the forum.  I recently came across an acetate by the Wells Street Blues Band. I think it must be the one John Anderson was in.  The tracks are "All These Blues" and "I Can't Quit You Baby".  Does anyone know these tracks or heard of the acetate or session?  Maybe John can confirm or add to the story.  Even about the mispelling on the acetate!

Is Wells Street Nicko Macbrain`s early band?

Actually, Nicko had nothing to do with The Wells Street Blues Band. This was a year or so before he joined. By that time we were Axe.

Why was the 'S' missing from the acetate title?

The session was at a low key Knightsbridge studio, and this old guy who ran the session persisted in calling us the Well Street Blue Band ---- like we were some kind of margarine. I don’t know how Blue Band got corrected to Blues Band, but it did. Not sure who added the S to Wells.

thanks so much for the info and the interest and I apologise for the delay in saying thankyou.  I am in the middle of moving house and once that is done i will play it once and record it, to see how it sounds!  I will probably sell it after that.

Sadly, Steve Gadd (our drummer in Charlie) passed away two weeks backs.

So sad!

I was the singer & harp player! Yes John was on bass. We were just kids trying to do blues & get a record deal, gigs, money, girls! Maybe not in that order! John was a great friend, & we went on to some critical acclaim adding Nicko Mac (Iron Maiden) to our number. Change of name also to Ax!

Hi Guys. This really takes me back. All that you say Doug and John seems to match my memory except I think the studio was in Holland Park. I was looking at photos of the recording session just last week. Good to hear you are still rocking John. Who else still has a copy of that? Not me.

Good grief Doug, where are you?

(For anyone who's reading this, Doug was one of the best blues harp players I have ever known).

But Doug, you totally disappeared my friend!

I was at Steve Gadd's funeral on Friday, and Nicko gave a tribute to Steve (the times with Charlie and Maiden), and also to our early days in Ax.

He mentioned you my friend, and a glowing tribute it was ---- yes, believe me.

200 people were at the funeral in Truro Cathedral.

A sad day, but a wonderful send-off.

My dad Dave was the keyboard player in the band. We have a photo on the wall with Bill, John, Doug and dad in his fur waistcoat we still have a copy of the record, all these blues which still gets played.

Oh WOW!!!

Sorry that I've only just picked up this thread, but yes ---- Dave with the big Vauxhall (I think). A maroon red Cresta with a cavernous boot, and enough space for his Farfisa?

Have I got this right?

But was his Cresta as well used as my Hillman Minx Convertible? Did I ever put my Marshall JTM45 combo and 64 SG Standard in the back of the Hillman? I can only remember using a Bedford and later a Ford van for gigs. I remember those photos - shot in or around Fleet Street I seem to remember. A relative of yours John?

Yeah I have listened to both of these tracks "All These Blues" and "I Can't Quit You Baby". I know that Wells Street Blues Band have done a great work in these songs.

I was the keyboard player in that band and still have a copy of the record we just played for my grandson 5 minutes ago. I still have a couple of photos as well.
