I'm pleased to hear people are requesting more stuff, however let's put this into context .....the world wide sales of Elysium stand at 461 ....I do have more stuff, but honestly I don't have the drive to finish them to a standard I would be happy with . I don't have any other songs I have finished. I'm always pleased to hear from you, but honestly I don't see any meaningful interest in Charlie (or me) apart from your good self and a few others. Until I get inspired by whatever, I'm taking a break. Terry
So to those Charlie-ites out there, still reading the forum page (diminishing over time, I'm guessing), you need to voice your thoughts
Very sad but I understand how Terry feels. To have created so much great music and not received the reward and recognition he deserved must be disheartening. Let's hope he feels more upbeat soon. Charlie will always be one of my favourite bands.
Elysium is fantastic it needs a relaunch with another label who might be prepared to get it out there to the target audience. Charlie are considered as is Terry with his other productions as a Melodic Rock outfit but from what I can see this main market has been ignored.
461 sales worldwide for this amazing album is just a sin and something most of us will never understand. I don't blame TT for being pissed and what I don't like seems to be a lack of respect for this great singer/songwriter, he needs some love & help from his fellow artist from around the world. Elysium needed more promotion and airplay and sadly never got it.
Not sure what else is left to say except I share Mr. Thomas's frustration with the low sales amount as well. I'm not sure what the overall solution would be except lots more & better aimed promotion but those things cost $$$, lots of it and I don't see him or anyone else footing the bill so it is what it is. So I'll just lend my single solitary voice and say thank you personally not only for a great sounding new CD's worth of music but also for you and your band's past efforts as well. I've been trying to get www.allmusicguide.com's attention regarding updating their list to include Elysium in their listings but so far I have been unsuccessful in my efforts. I feel if more music sites know of this releases existence that would certainly help boost overall sales as a result. After all if you don't know it even exists how do you know you'll want to buy it?
Is this released only in UK? Trying to buy one on Amazon and they seem to have it mislinked with the Charlie/Charlie album. Love the music of Charlie and Terry Thomas, can't wait to hear this. Scott (Oregon, USA)
I count myself among a very lucky group to have a copy Elysium. Charlie is my favorite group for long drives in my Benz SL550 with the top down. Of course the song of the moment is Cars...shoulda worked Mercedes into the lyrics, but that'd be a tough rhyme...
Got my copy of "Elysium" today (2/10/17) in the mail purchased new off of Amazon from "importcds". As an original USA Charlie fan, I'm embarrassed to admit that I did not buy this album when it first came out as I had with every other American "Charlie" release, starting with "Fantasy Girls" album. Terry Thomas, I apologize ! "Elysium" is grand !
As I read through the insert's details of the "Charlie" saga, I felt both elation and a twinge of pain. Elation that I have shared through fandom Terry's musical journey; that pride and satisfaction you feel when you introduce "Charlie" to another unsuspecting music lover. Then a twinge of pain as you read Terry's words, "This is the End".
I was 20 when "Fantasy Girls" album hit the US shores, ... over 60 now as I write this.
Thank You, Terry Thomas ! Thank you for "Charlie" being a part of the soundtrack of my life.
TERRY..YOU GO AHEAD TAKE THAT BREAK YOU MUCH DESERVE IT....REST UP BUDDY HOPING YOU BOUNCE BACK EVEN STRONGER."CHARLIE" SUCH A OUTSTANDING BAND..HAVE EVERYTHING YOU GUY'S DID.
Thanks to this forum I just ordered and received the Elysium CD from Amazon USA. Looking forward to hearing it! Charlie was a great band who if they didn't have bad luck they would not have had any at all. Looking forward to the new release-can't wait to play it. Thanks for the forum! Bill Cannon
I hate saying goodbye. I hate even more admitting its the end. Yes I know all things come to an end eventually, that's natural part of life but that doesn't seem to make it any easier for me to accept. So for the time being I'm going to treat this as a "so long' as opposed to a goodbye. Terry I do hope hope that where ever lifes journey takes you you will eventually will rediscover that creative spark within you that will enable you to finish those as yet un finished songs & song fragments. Take a nice long vacation somewhere where you've never been but always wanted to go, I know that's what I would do if I were in your shoes.
Thanks again for all the music you've provided us (your fans). We really appreciate your efforts. Please reach out to other band members and tell them what I'm saying to you as well. Copious amounts of good positive reenforcement does wonders for replenishing the creative soul. Take care and GOD bless.
I just discovered Charlie courtesy of Spotify, and am staggered at the quality of songwriting and playing. As someone once wrote of Warren Zevon, "How can somebody this good be this obscure?".
Disclaimer... 30 years of amateur gigging bass guitar, and a love of 70's prog and punk!
I bought my copy on Amazon a couple of years ago, have been a big Charlie fan since the early 1970’s, I have all of their stuff and love the last two releases...
Just got the album and only one critism and that is that the vocals are lost on songs like Virus, a tune with a beautiful second half but difficult to make out what is being sung.
Considering I rate Terry as one of the greatest rock producers of all time, Giant, Tesla and Bad Company prove that point beyond doubt, I think Elysium is lost and for whatever reason he has hidden what could have been some fine vocals. Also no breathing space from an album that wants to hit peak volume far too much.
I also purchased a copy via Amazon UK as it was unavailable from the USA Amazon version at the time I ordered it. Frankly, I'm not so sure how many fans know about this latest release, and that troubles me. I just listened to it again and I like it!
I've played the album many times on Spotify but I'm guessing the revenue from that is paltry. Great return to form for Terry and Co. would be a real shame if that was it - how on earth do you get people to listen to this if there's not a big marketing campaign? I have no idea. Saw Charlie back in 1977 in London - great under-rated band. One day people will wake up to it.
