Julian is much better now, thanks! 2016 has been a bit of a challenging year it's true to say, yes.
Music has its challenges too. We are now at a time where recorded music is almost universally expected to be provided free of charge. People pay for its delivery, be that a subscription to a streaming service, ownership of a laptop or mobile device and an internet connection, or, in growing but still relatively minuscule numbers, on a vinyl record. But the music itself? Increasingly hard to 'monetize' as they say. The medium isn't just the message, now it's message with moolah.
Of course it's tempting to look back and muse 'what if?' Equally tempting to look back at what did happen and wonder 'why?' But I neither like nor subscribe to the notion that Charlie was somehow gipped, or even hard done-by, or somehow swindled out of a multi-platinum career and a seat in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. We did what we did. We had many, many incredible experiences, got to commit our thoughts and talents to media that will allow it to be heard by those who wish to retain or discover it for years to come, and, basically, do and pursue exactly what we wanted to do. I'm okay with that. What 'ranking' all of that reached, or achieved, as judged by media corporations who never knew us, much less had or have any interest in us, is completely by-the-by. The point is, this music exists and it's great that any people, regardless of the actual number, enjoy it. So Happy Christmas to you guys (and gals?) here, and thanks! Julian.
thank you much peter...well said please stay in touch with me...and where can i get a copy of charlie's latest lp...and who is on it any one from charlie?
Julian - um, that would be me - is actually based in Santa Cruz, CA. I mainly work with Alan Parsons these days, on an educational recording entity called The Art & Science Of Sound Recording (www.assr.tv). We make videos, write books, write educational syllabi on music production and audio engineering, put on live masterclasses.
Another 'Anonymous' got wind of a radio interview I did recently. It wasn't me but it was very accurately posted so perhaps it was the DJ. Very kind, anyhow. J.
